Reporter Description

Digital Court Reporter

SUMMARY:

AVTranz seeks to engage Digital Court Reporters (“DCR”) with experience ranging from entry level to seasoned professionals. As an independent contractor, DCRs own their own businesses and establish their own hours and availability. Digital Court Reporters are responsible for capturing and maintaining the official record of a proceeding using digital recording equipment. Primary responsibilities include obtaining a high quality audio recording, managing exhibits, and compiling clear and accurate log notes with speaker identification.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AAERT or NCRA certification a plus
  • Court reporting school a plus
  • Higher education a plus

Knowledge of:

  • Fundamentals of court proceedings, documents, and rules related to capturing a verbatim court record (reference AAERT best practices guide)
  • English grammar, legal procedures and legal terminology
  • Microsoft Word

Ability to:

  • Use and maintain electronic recording equipment
  • Verify that the electronic equipment is working properly prior to start of proceeding and to perform routine, simple maintenance
  • Organize work effectively and meet required deadlines
  • Sit in one place and maintain a high level of concentration for long periods of time
  • Be self motivated, efficiently organize work under pressure, exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Use a personal computer/laptop in a Windows environment
  • Learn other software products, as needed
  • Use basic email and calendaring software
  • Lift up to 25 pounds
  • Follow oral and written directions and use good judgment in recognizing the scope and limit of delegated authority
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others, includingjudicial officers, attorneys, supervisors, other agencies, and the public
  • Obtain and maintain a Notary Commission
  • Ability to travel is a plus

Transcriptionist

SUMMARY:

AVTranz is looking for independent contractors with experience in producing verbatim court transcripts. Independent contractors are self employed and, as such, establish their own hours and availability. Transcriptionists must have reliable, up-to-date transcription equipment, excellent grammar and punctuation skills, organization and time management skills, extensive legal terminology, experience with MS Word, templates and macros, experience with digital players such as FTR and JAVS, and familiarity with administrative and court proceedings. We offer a wide variety of court and agency work in multiple jurisdictions around the country.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two or more years of experience producing verbatim court transcripts
  • Equipped with reliable, up-to-date transcription equipment
  • Excellent grammar and punctuation skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Extensive legal terminology; medical terminology a plus
  • Experience with MS Word, templates and macros
  • Experience with various digital players (i.e., FTR, JAVS, Liberty)
  • Certification through AAERT, NCRA or NVRA a plus

Knowledge of:

  • Fundamentals of court proceedings
  • Online search techniques
  • MS Word, templates and macros

Ability to:

  • Organize work effectively and meet required deadlines
  • Be self motivated, efficiently organize work under pressure
  • Exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Use basic email and calendaring software
  • Learn other software products as needed
  • Transcribe with MS Word, utilizing templates and macro
